Christmas Day, 1915 – born John (Jack) Scard, only son of William and Elizabeth Scard.
Upbringing
Elizabeth Scard dies in early 1919, shortly after Bill’s return from the Western Front. Served with 2nd Battalion, and fought at Arras. In early 1917, Bn on Arras front, near Achicourt, to south of Arras. April 1917, Bill had been at Mercatel and Henin, south-east of Arras, part of 21st Infantry Bde, 30th Division, 3rd Army.
Also fought at Battle of Somme (Battle of Albert) in July 1916.
Jack raised largely by his father and by his neighbours, Frank and Emily Gulliver. Bill Scard is gamekeeper on Francis Ellerby’s farm in Alvesdon, in south-west Wiltshire. Frank Gulliver is a farm worker on the farm.
